GMA handled economy fairly well - Enrile
MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile today gave a passing rate to President Arroyo, saying she has handled the economy "fairly well."
"It is fairly well-handled. I'm satisfied with it," Enrile told a radio interview this morning.
He said the country did not bear the brunt of the global financial collapse due to sparing management.
"We are very sparing in our goals and expectations," Enrile said of the management style of the President, an economist.
He, however, said some of the goals set by Mrs. Arroyo in her State of the Nation Address last year have not materialized or have not been attained.
He also said it is not wrong for President Arroyo to mention her intention to push for amendments to the 1987 Constitution if it will improve the lives of the people.
"Hindi naman masama na sabihin na 'Kayong mga susunod ay baguhin nyo ang Konstitusyon para sa kapakananng bayan'," Enrile said.
He believes that President Arroyo will not go through the lengthy process of amending the Charter just to shift to a parliamentary form of government and perpetuate herself in power. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
